The OSBA has agreed to support the Public Safety Security System
Provider (ESSP) Licensing Act sponsored by Representative James P Trakas.
The proposed legislation brought to Rep. Trakas by the Ohio Burglar and
Fire Alarm Association (OBFAA) is an industry effort to increase public
safety while providing for smaller government. ESSP, is enacted, will
avoid over burdened and duplicate regulations at the local level by
ensuring statewide standards for public safety through licensing,
continuing education and background checks for one low state fee.
Maintaining a high level of professionalism in the ESSP would be a huge
benefit for all business owners. The Act will protect the public from harm
that can be caused by unscrupulous persons or companies.
OSBA views this legislation as having a positive impact on Ohio
businesses. Unfair competition from out of state telemarketers and
"trunk slammers" would be protected. Basic standards and
licensing requirements would need to be met without presenting a barrier
to market entry, which inconsistent or duplicative regulations would
cause.
